The Patient Welfare Fund (PWF) is a registered charity, set up in August 2009 with income from the generosity of the general public, regimental associations and charitable organisations. The fund is used to enhance the patients stay, providing some luxuries and improve the quality of life during admission.
Our patients can arrive in Birmingham with limited possessions, away from their home units and with family and friends dislocated or swiftly brought to their bedsides. Helping them in the first few days is a huge boost. The initial days of a patient and their families’ time at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) can be particularly difficult. We aim to provide facilities and comforts over and above that funded the ‘system’ to allow everyone to concentrate on recovery and supporting their loved ones on that journey.
Money from the PWF is used to directly support military patients and family members and is spent on a wide variety of things ranging from recreational activities (where able) through to sundry items for the patient. The aim is to make life easier for the patient either by providing some normality or providing specialist items.
The PWF is overseen by a Board of Trustees and together they ensure that money from the PWF is spent appropriately but also without delay where deemed necessary. This means it can have an immediate impact on patient care.
